Can Meta’s new Llama 3.1 model replace Open AI and Google?

On Tuesday, July 23, Meta launched the fifth version of its AI Model series Llama. The company announced Llama 3.1 as the most advanced large language model freely accessible to users. With this, Meta’s Llama 3.1 places itself in competition with platforms like Google and Open AI.

Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg publicized the new language model as ‘open source’, which is accessible to everyone free of charge, which eventually advance the use of the LLM in industries and organizations. Llama poses itself as a replacement for large AI models like ChatGPT and Gemini AI in terms of offering an array of features. Meta CEO focused on the efficiency and accuracy of Llama 3.1 and highlighted its open approach to accessibility to its audience.

With the release of the Llama 3.1 model, Zuckerberg wrote a letter expressing his approach and delivering his future perspective on the language model. The CEO discussed his proposition to transform the AI language model and unleash the LLM free from restrictions. “I believe AI will develop similarly’, said Mark Zuckerberg in his letter.

However, several experts express their concern with the model’s open approach, citing the misuse of data and lack of control over the AI model. While some observe it as a drastic move to build a robust foundation for an open-source community and encourage developers to build applications.

It is said that establishing such large open-source language models can cost heavily to the developers. Meta’s strong existence with the availability of abundant resources ensures the launch of the model that can compete with Google and Open AI.

Llama 3.1 competes with models like ChatGPT and Gemini in processing information and web browsing. Simultaneously, Meta uses its Llama models to foster its Meta AI chatbot, which can ultimately empower the Meta applications. Although the model has just stepped into the industry, Mark Zuckerberg has ensured a progressing future for AI models.
